  1. THE BENEFITS OF BIOLOGICAL INDICATORS IN THE MEDICAL STERILIZATION PROCESS June Enterprises

  2. Sterilization in medical and pharmaceutical industry is an important aspect as it prevents cross contamination and improves patient outcomes. The sterilization of medical equipment is crucial for the functioning of our modern healthcare system at every level. Among all other sterilization indicators, Biological Indicatorare considered the highest standard for monitoring the sterilization process.

  3. Basic Information Biological indicators use bacterial spores that are enclosed in a smaller container placed inside the sterilizer. They also ensure the process and equipment are functioning as required to sterilize the medical equipment. Biological indicators are generally incubated after every sterilization process to determine if any bacterial spores survived. On the elimination of all the bacterial spores, the indicator shows the sterilization process was effective and the medical items in the sterilizer should have zero or significantly fewer microorganisms on them.

  4. Biological Indicatorcan also be used in conjunction with a process challenge device to monitor the efficacy of the steam sterilizer, or autoclave, along with rooms, biological safety cabinets, and isolators. These indicators can also be set aside for test results after every sterilization cycle to dictate how the method you are using will be processed. An expert from the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) describes biological monitoring as "the cornerstone of your sterilization quality assurance program" because it tells us whether the sterilization cycle has adequately killed microbial contaminants in a proof-positive way that cannot be achieved by chemical and mechanical monitoring alone. It is one of the most effective ways to spot early malfunctions or errors, greatly reducing patient risk.  Visit June Enterprises to know more.
