  4. Restraint/Seclusion

  5. Restraint / Seclusion • KDE, in partnership with Kentucky Educational Television (KET), is developing content for a web-based option for the training required of all school personnel, pursuant to Section 6(1) of 704 KAR 7:160, Use of Physical Restraint and Seclusion in Public Schools. • The training focuses on positive behavioral supports and interventions to help school personnel: • increase appropriate student behaviors, • decrease inappropriate or dangerous student behaviors, and • respond to dangerous situations.

  6. How Long Will It Take? • The training will consist of four (4) online modules that address all components required by Section 6 (1) of the regulation. • We anticipate that this training can be completed within four (4) hours. • It is projected that the training will be available to districts in mid-June, 2013.

Standards Update • Next Generation Science Standards will go to KBE tomorrow for 2nd read • Social Studies Standards Revision/Writing Team is beginning work today to establish new standards based on the College/Career/Civic (C3) Framework • Plan to present DRAFT Social Studies Standards to KBE for a first read in August • Plans for implementation of new Science and Social Studies Standards in 2014-15 (with first new assessment spring 2015)

Leadership Networks for 2013-14 • Science Networks will begin in September 2013 in each region • ISLN will resume for school and district leader teams in September 2013 • Social Studies Networks will begin in January 2014 • Start Planning to have the RIGHT teacher leaders on board (by August to coops)

  16. CIITS Update • The Student Portal is now available in CIITS.  This new feature allows teachers to assign content to students in one or more of their sections.  • CIITS New School Year Resource: CIITS will be updated to reflect the upcoming 2013-14 school year on July 1, 2013. As a result, all Key Performance Indicators and Data Dashboards will not reflect any data until the first day of school when student enrollment is active.  A new resource is posted in CIITS that describes how to access previous school year data. • Aligned CC 360 resources are now available in the Classrooms Module. • Professional learning opportunities are being posted in CIITS. • Training Opportunities: resources are being added to support new enhancements in CIITS. • SMART device compatible coming (end of June)

  17. CIITS District Highlight - Marshall County • Implementation Strategies • CIITS Trainers/District Coaches- Mrs. Leah Beth and Mr. BJ Hayden, along with Mrs. Cothran self-trained in CIITS. Together we watched webinars, experimented and reviewed the teacher and Administrator resources. We then planned the agendas and presentations for coach pullouts, PLC meetings, curriculum pullout days and after school PD’s. • CIITS School Coaches- Each school had a CIITS coach that received a stipend- they met in August, October, January and February. We paid for a sub for the whole day. They trained with Mrs. Beth, Mr. Hayden and Mrs. Cothran on half of the day and worked with their school staff the other part of the day. We also paid for a sub for each coach to have a day to work with teachers in their buildings during plan time. • PLC’s & CIITS-  Marshall County school district has a PLC meeting each month on a Wednesday, with school releasing at 2:00 the following Tuesday.  Central Office staff, all school administrators and teacher PLC leaders all attend. At each meeting we presented a different function of CIITS. The PLC teacher leaders and CIITS coaches are not the same so this spread information to different groups of teachers. They then took information to their • school PLC groups on the early release day.

  18. Middle School Curriculum Days- all middle school science, ELA and math teachers were pulled out to work on curriculum pacing and alignment. During this time we embedded CIITS related to their classes. We shared resources, created and took express test, demonstrated lesson planner etc. • High School Plan Block Training- the high school is on a 4x4 block with 90 minutes of plan time/ two times in the year Mrs. Beth worked during plan time to show/demonstrate/help teachers with the tools in CIITS. • CIITS PD- Secondary and elementary CIITS PD sessions were offered after school for teachers needing extra PD hours. They were conducted by Mrs. Beth, Mr. Hayden and Mrs. Cothran. We had multiple sessions with high participation rates. • Administrator Meetings- we updated school principals at admin meetings on the info that had been shared with CIITS coaches. • PD 360- as the end of the year approached and various teachers needed PD credit we put together a training to show our principals how to set up PD for their teachers under the focus tab.

Fun Facts from the • School Improvement Network (PD360) • 286 new user licenses (April) • 928 new/unique users (April) • Unique-user log ins from 21.84% to 23.50% (April) • 10,753 total log-ins (April) • 881 unique-person increase in the number of educators that have viewed video content overall (increased from 59.83% to 62.50%) • 100,061 video viewing minutes in April! • Upcoming training sessions are being offered at all Kentucky Coops focused on PD 360 and • Common Core 360 Essentials, Professional • Learning and Leadership

A Few School Improvement Network • Usage Highlights (PD360): • Harlan County High School - 12,430 minutes since August • Taylor County Middle School - 7,960 minutes since August • Taylor County Elementary School - 6,637 minutes since August • Jackson County Middle School - 6,133 minutes in since August • North Todd Elementary School - 6,011 minutes in since August We also observed a substantial increase in average minutes viewed per educator. Viewing increased from an average of 35.68 minutes to an average of 44.66 minutes – raising the average viewing minutes per educator by 8.98 minutes. Forum viewed, forum posts, files downloaded, filed uploaded, links viewed and links uploaded increased as well!

Teaching Method Descriptions 01: Direct Instruction (default setting) – traditional course taught by a teacher employed by the district. 02: 3rd Party Contract – course taught by a 3rd party contractor other than virtual, dual credit, or National Academy Foundation (NAF) (e.g., auto mechanic, golf instructor, Head Start provider). 03: JCPS Self Study – do not use. 10: Digital Learning Provider – virtual course that uses a digital platform other than credit recovery (e.g., JCPS eSchool, KET, BAVEL). 11: Dual Credit – District Offered – dual credit course taught by a teacher employed by the district, and students are not enrolled in the NAF Academy.

Teaching Method Descriptions . 12: Dual Credit – College Offered - dual credit course taught by a teacher employed by a postsecondary institution, and students are not enrolled in the NAF Academy. 13: Credit Recovery – Direct Instruction – course taught by a teacher employed by the district that allows students to earn credit for a course they previously failed. 14: Credit Recovery – Digital Learning Provider – computer-based course that allows students to earn credit for a course they previously failed (e.g., PLATO, APEX, Odyssey, NOVEL/STARS). 15: Transitional Course – KDE Curriculum – course that uses the transitional curriculum framework sponsored by KDE (found at http://education.ky.gov/educational/int/hscf/Pages/default.aspx).

Professional Growth & Effectiveness System Statewide Pilot Participation • Districts need to ensure pilot participants are identified (http://education.ky.gov/teachers/HiEffTeach/ Pages/default.aspx) and submitted via the web collector (http://applications.education.ky.gov/login) • Districts may want to consider including additional participants in the pilot to help build capacity for 2014-2015 implementation across the district. • Districts need to ensure they have identified or are developing a coordinated professional learning plan for pilot participants.

Professional Growth & Effectiveness System Principal Proficiency • Participating pilot principals must complete Teachscape certification by August 1. • Licenses available through the Kentucky Association of School Administrators (KASA): contact Shirley LaFavers at shirley@kasa.org • EARLY BIRD $349 per participant through 6/30/13 • District must consider what systems are in place to support principals moving through the proficiency system • Many districts are working with principal participants in cohorts • Working through certification modules together • Provides a support structure for principals
