Description • Any member of paraphyletic group of organisms that consist of all gill-bearing aquatic craniate animals that lack limbs with digits • Dictionary definition- any of various cold-blooded, aquatic vertebrates, having gills, commonly fins, and typically an elongated body covered with scales

  4. Housing or Equipment • Fish tank • Aquarium filters • Aquarium lighting • Aquarium salt- if needed • Fish food • Gravel

  5. Feeding Procedure • * overfeeding is the most common mistake fish owners make • How often? • Varies on type of fish • Average one feeding per day • Keep feedings small • Timing doesn’t matter How much? • No more than what the fish can consume in less than 5 minutes • Give more if needed

  6. Varieties of food • Manufactured food: This includes floating and sinking pellet, granular and flake food. • Freeze-dried feeds: Worms, larvae, brine shrimp and krill etc. • Live foods: Maggots, fresh insect larvae, live worms, and feeder fish - all come under this category.

Interesting facts • Fish do not sleep • In some species males will carry the young/eggs in his mouth until they are old enough to care for themselves • There are over 25,000 identified species of fish on earth • 40% of all fish species inhabit fresh water, yet less than .01% of the earths’ water is fresh water • Tropical fish are one of the most popular pets in the US • The largest fish is the great whale shark which can reach 50 feet in length
