  4. Purpose and Audience • To educate the general and at risk population on MRSA • MRSA is present in 1 out of 3 people • Found on the skin and in the nose of most individuals

  5. MRSA Awareness • Why do I need to know this information?

  6. What is MRSA

  7. How is MRSA Transmitted • Via contact sports that involve skin to skin contact • In crowded conditions such as nursing homes, child care centers, military camps or jails • By sharing towels or personal items • Via men who have sex with other men

  8. Who has MRSA

  9. Symptoms of MRSA • Redness • Warmness • Swelling • Skin tenderness • Boils • Blisters • Infection may look like a pimple and grow bigger

  11. Prevention Good Hygiene • Hand washing with soap and water • Alcohol based hand rubs • Keep cuts and scrapes covered until healed • Avoid contact with soiled bandages and wounds • Avoid sharing personal hygiene products like razors and towels

  12. If you have it • Prevent spreading it • Cover your wounds • Clean your hands • Do not share personal items • Keep your environment clean • Talk to your doctor • Finish your antibiotic to prevent further resistance
