  2. Overview • • What is the Research in Progress (RIP) Database • • What is the Transport Research International Documentation (TRID) Database • Benefits of having your projects and publications in RIP and TRID

  3. What is Research in Progress (RIP)? • RIP is a clearing house managed by TRB for DOTs and UTCs to enter and maintain records of their current research projects • RIP users enter, edit, and delete their records via the RIP interface at rip.trb.org

  4. What is the TRID Database • TRID is a bibliographic database that contains more than one million records of completed, published research, monographs and journals • Publications are indexed in TRID by professional indexers who work for TRIS, or are imported from the ITRD, ATRI or other databases • The project records in TRID (noted with PROJECT) are copies of the RIP Database records • Final research reports should be sent to tris-trb@nas.edu or submitted at trid.trb.org

Why should UTCs Submit Their Research to the RIP and TRID Databases? • Submitting research to RIP and TRID is a contractual requirement • RIP exists to inform researchers of current projects so as not to duplicate research • Goal to connect researchers Entering contact information • Goal to identify project/committee participants • DOT and other transportation libraries use of TRID

  6. Why should UTCs Submit Their Research to the RIP and TRID Databases? • Disseminate research to the public. Top 10 countries using TRID from June 1, 2013 – May 31, 2014. TRID received more than 1.8 million hits in this time period.

  7. And Last… • Training session for entering and editing projects in RIP is tentatively scheduled for 8 August, 2014
