  1. What is the course about? The course is designed to simulate “sandpit” events, a mechanism chosen by RCUK to create, select and award research grants for multidisciplinary science. This course will provide you with unique training to enable you to succeed at these events, both now and later in your career.   2. Are you wanting to pursue a career as an academic? If so, it is likely that you will attend at least 3-4 “sandpit” events during your career What is a sandpit event? It typically brings together 20-30 of scientists from a range of backgrounds for a residential creativity workshop, where participants generate radical solutions to address research challenges . At the end of the sandpit participants pitch against each other for ring fenced monies to fund their idea. Grant writing prize fund As part of the course funding will be available for PDRAs to support the write up and submission of a grant application for the best ideas generated during the workshop Don’t leave success to chance Sandpits can be a “sink or swim” experience but with the right training they don’t have to be. This course provides you with guidance about the process and equips you with the skillset required to maximise your contribution and enhance your chances of success rates at sandpit sessions.
