  1. Data Reporting and AQS

  2. What are the major changes affecting data reporting of lead? • Sampling for Pb in TSP or Pb in PM10 • Reporting based on local conditions has led to new parameter codes • Inclusion of average temperature and barometric pressure for the sample period • Method codes for Pb-PM10 associated with each Analysis Method Description – Available soon • Method codes for Pb-TSP associated with each Analysis Method Description – Detail to come later

  3. What’s required to be reported? • Pb-TSP • mass concentration at local conditions (parameter code 14128) • Average daily ambient temperature (68105) • Average daily barometric pressure (68108) • Pb-PM10 • mass concentration at local conditions (parameter code 85129) • Sampler generated average daily temperature • Sampler generated average daily pressure • Most of the QA Data If not already being reported to AQS for the station; can also report data from a nearby airport

  4. QA Data Reporting • Required to be Reported: • Flow Rate Audits (2/year) - stayed the same • Collocation - stayed the same (15% of samplers/PQAO, every 12 day sampling) • Can report as raw data (need to associate in collocation screen), or • As a precision transaction • Optional Reporting: • Flow rate verifications - stayed the same • 1/quarter (TSP Hi-Vol) • 1/month (PM10 Lo-Vol) • Independent Program will load: • Performance Evaluation (PEP-Like) for estimate of overall bias • < 5 sites in PQAO- 1 PEP and 4 collocated • > 5 sites in PQAO- 2 PEP and 6 collocated • Pb strip lab audits • Same frequency (2 concentration- 3/strips/concentration/quarter/lab) • Different concentration (30-100% and 200-300% of NAAQS)

  5. AQS Reporting Timeline

  6. Metadata Considerations • Many fields can be populated; focusing on a few key fields will help ensure consistent use of data • For Latitude and Longitude we recommend • Confirm existing stations’ coordinates • Use GPS to set up new stations

  7. Metadata Summary for Lead } Typically source-oriented 1 An additional Monitor Type of “non-regulatory” may also be loaded, if applicable, for SPM’s and Tribal Monitors. Guidance on this topic will be forthcoming

  8. Other Reporting Issues • Method Detection Limit (MDL) for both Pb-TSP and Pb-PM10 • Default MDL set to 5% of NAAQS or 0.0075 µg/m3 • Laboratory specific MDL’s are to be used, as necessary • Reporting in µg/m3 at LC to three decimal places; any digits to the right are truncated. • For example, 0.1217 is reported as 0.121 µg/m3 • Description of existing “Lead (TSP)” parameter code has been changed to “Lead TSP STP” (parameter code is still 12128).

  9. Need to tell AQS which Monitor is the “Primary Monitor” • Use the screen Primary Monitor Periods to designate primary monitor, even if not collocated • Found under Maintain Site

  10. NAAQS Methods • The only methods to be compared to the revised lead NAAQS are: • Lead in TSP at STP collected prior to 1/1/2009 • Lead in TSP at local conditions with a FRM or FEM2 – parameter code 14128 • Lead in PM10 at local conditions with a FRM or FEM2 - parameter code 85129 2 No approved FEMs yet

  11. Lead Parameter Code Summary A detailed table will be available on AMTIC at: http://www.epa.gov/ttn/amtic/pb-monitoring.html
