  2. The Bible says that God helps those who help themselves. The books of the New Testament were written centuries after the events they describe.

  3. Cleanliness is next to godliness is in the Bible. According to the Bible, the earth is flat. The earliest New Testament manuscripts go back only to the fourth or fifth centuries A.D.

  4. The Bible teaches that the earth is the center of the universe. The English Bible is a translation of a translation of a translation (etc.) of the original, and fresh errors were introduced in each stage of the process.

  5. We don’t use archeology and Biblical criticism to prove the Bible. We use them to confirm what we already know to be true.

  7. LESSON 1 What the Bible says about the Bible

  8. THE CHARACTER OF THE BIBLE THE BIBLE IS THE WORD OF GOD Then the LORD stretched out His hand and touched my mouth, and the LORD said to me, “Behold, I have put My words in your mouth.” Jeremiah 1:9

  9. God gave His message to Jeremiah Jeremiah dictated to Baruch Baruch wrote the message Baruch read the message in the temple

  10. When you received from us the word of God’s message [literally, “the word of hearing of God”], you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe. 1 Thessalonians 2:13

  11. THE BIBLE IS A LIVING BOOK For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

  12. THE BIBLE IS A PRESERVED BOOK The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever. Isaiah 40:8

  13. Within 100 years, Christianity will be swept away from existence and pass into the obscurity of history. —Voltaire Died in 1778

  14. The way things really are. THE BIBLE AS A BOOK OF REALITY For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. 2 Peter 1:16

  15. THE BIBLE AS A BOOK OF REALITY . . .what was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we beheld and our hands handled, concerning the Word of Life. 1 John 1:1

  16. THE BIBLE AS A BOOK OF REALITY 38 That the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke, “LORD, who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?” 39 For this cause they could not believe, for Isaiah said again,

  17. THE BIBLE AS A BOOK OF REALITY 40 “He has blinded their eyes, and He hardened their heart; lest they see with their eyes, and perceive with their heart, and be converted, and I heal them.” 41 These things Isaiah said, because he saw His glory, and he spoke of Him. John 12:38-41

  18. A subject to be discussed. THE BIBLE IS A PROPOSITIONAL BOOK Come now, and let us reason together," Says the LORD, "Though your sins are as scarlet, They will be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They will be like wool.” Isaiah 1:18

  19. THE BIBLE IS A PROPOSITIONAL BOOK 1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show to His bond-servants, the things which must shortly take place; and He sent and communicated it by His angel to His bond-servant John,

  20. 2 who bore witness to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, even to all that he saw. 3 Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and heed the things which are written in it; for the time is near. Revelation 1:1-3

  21. Here are the things that I am going to do. You read these things and hear them and heed them and you will be blessed.

  22. THE BIBLE IS A NEEDFUL BOOK TO DIRECT OUR LIVES Thy word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path. Psalm 119:105

  23. THE BIBLE IS A NEEDFUL BOOK TO LIFT OUR SPIRITS I am exceedingly afflicted; Revive me, O LORD, according to Thy word. Psalm 119:107

  24. THE BIBLE IS A NEEDFUL BOOK TO NOURISH OUR SOULS 3 “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” 4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4:3-4

  25. THE ENDORSEMENT OF THE BIBLE Jesus Endorsed the Old Testament Now He said to them, “These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” Luke 24:44

  26. THE ENDORSEMENT OF THE BIBLE The New Testament Anticipated 13 But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. John 16:13

  27. THE ENDORSEMENT OF THE BIBLE Peter endorsed the writings of Paul 15 And regard the patience of our Lord to be salvation; just as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given him, wrote to you,

  28. THE ENDORSEMENT OF THE BIBLE Peter endorsed the writings of Paul 16 as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction. 2 Peter 3:15-16

  29. “The proportion of words virtually accepted on all hands as raised above doubt is very great, not less, on a rough computation, than seven-eighths of the whole.

  30. “The remaining eighth therefore, formed in great part by changes of order and other comparatively trivialities, constitutes the whole area of criticism.

  31. “. . .the amount of what in any sense can be called substantial variation is but a small fraction of the whole residuary variation, and can hardly form more than a thousandth part of the entire text.”

  32. “The number of manuscripts of the New Testament, of early translations from it, and of quotations from it in the oldest writers of the Church, is so large that it is practically certain that the true reading of every doubtful passage is preserved in some one or other of these ancient authorities. “

  33. “The Christian can take the whole Bible in his hand without fear or hesitation that he holds in it the true word of God, handed down without essential loss from generation to generation throughout the centuries.” Sir Fredrick Kenyon, Director of the British Museum for twenty years, Our Bible and the Ancient Manuscripts.
