  1. China During the Nanking Decade (1927-1937)

  2. The next few days we will be focused on the Nanking Decade. • Eventually we will work our way through 1949, and enter China’s present-day Communist Era. For Today • Class was divided into 2 groups yesterday. One group read from the perspective of the Guomindang, while the other half read about it from the perspective of the Chinese Communist Party. • Be prepared to discuss your document (and answers) at length tomorrow. • I will pass back presentation rubrics. Feel free to ask for additional feedback or comments. Questions are always welcome.

  3. But first…. • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUCEeC4f6ts • 3:52

  4. Questions • What were the goals and outcomes of Chiang Kaishek and the Guomindang government during the “Nanjing Decade” of 1927-1937? • Why did a series of civil wars erupt in 1929? • How did Mao Zedong rise to power during the Nanjing Decade? • Why was the orthodox Marxist-Leninist revolutionary ideology not relevant to China? • What happened to the civil war between the Nationalist government and the Chinese Communist Party when faced with Japanese aggression?
