Wandsworth Children's Services Aims of the cluster groups To meet regularly to: • Share experiences of implementing the new National Curriculum • To address common priorities in more detail • To receive national updates • To receive subject specific updates from development groups • To provide the forum for sharing curriculum and planning resources

Wandsworth Children's Services English Developments: • Cluster Group of voluntary subject leaders to work next meeting (12th February) • Planning overview long term and medium term plans linked to genre with learning outcomes and text suggestions • Progression documents (Writing already on Wiki) • Grammar staff meeting Second half day sessions this term: • Years 3,4,5 and 6 – Grammar training with Nikki Gamble • Years 1 and 2 – Comprehension and vocab building

Wandsworth Children's Services Mathematics Developments: • Maths Curriculum Development Group • Progression charts • Calculations policy • Medium term planning documents Half day sessions: • Session one: Overview of curriculum, Addition & subtraction • Session two: Multiplication & division (from arrays to formal written methods), Fractions • Session three: medium and short term planning (Summer term)

Wandsworth Children's Services Science • Subject Knowledge for Year 5 and 6 – will need further CPD in Summer Term • Subject leadership – will pick up themes and issues in regular Primary Science Network Meetings DS10 (13th February, 13th March and 5th June) • All documents except the ‘Skill Progression Grids’ are on wiki • Most challenging subject in regard to curriculum design in KS2

Wandsworth Children's Services Art • Exploring good practice and progression within the slimmed down curriculum. • Audit tool (Principles, curriculum, pedagogy, assessment of learning and teaching) • DfE v NSEAD (National Society for Education in Art and Design) – to make sense of skills progression

Wandsworth Children's Services Computing • Education Minister Elizabeth Truss has announced funding of £1.1 million for the British Computer Society (BCS) - the Chartered Institute for IT - to develop a computing readiness programme aimed specifically at primary school teachers with no prior experience of computer science. www.gov.uk/government/news/teaching-the-new-computing-curriculum

  9. Wandsworth Children's Services Computing at School • CAS (Computing at School) is looking for both primary and secondary teachers to apply to become CAS master teachers.   10. Wandsworth Children's Services Primary Computing Guide • CAS, in association with Naace and other partners have published a guide for primary school teachers. The guide explains how primary teachers can get started with the new curriculum and provides many pointers to excellent resources and ideas for building an innovative and exciting curriculum.   13. Wandsworth Children's Services History A WARNING: The draft history curriculum received huge press coverage, the final curriculum not nearly so much. The final curriculum is VERY DIFFERENT FROM THE DRAFT. Many teachers are still convinced that things they read about the draft are what they have to do. If you are a history co-ordinator make sure staff know the facts not the myths!
