  1. Babbage’s letter to Tennyson On "The Vision of Sin"Babbage wrote, “In your otherwise beautiful poem, one verse reads, Every moment dies a man, Every moment one is born.  ... If this were true, the population of the world would be at a standstill. In truth, the rate of birth is slightly in excess of that of death. I would suggest [that the next version of your poem should read]: Every moment dies a man, Every moment 1 1/16 is born. The modern value is 29.53059 days. • How can this be, since academics hold that the Mayan system was not used to calculate division and multiplication? It shall be possible to draw a circle with a given center and through a given point. 4. All right angles are equal to each other. 5. There is just one straight line through a given point which is parallel to a given line.* How might point 5 be wrong? Clue: Quantum physics disputes axiom 5.
