There was a lot of skepticism when Nintendo first showed “Wii Fit” two years ago. Those critics were quickly silenced when the fitness and balance game quickly became almost as popular as the Wii console itself. Finding a copy of the game last November and December was nearly impossible – and demand hasn’t let up yet.

The success of “Wii Fit” has opened the doors for other companies as well. Some, such as Electronic Arts, are releasing their own fitness games. Others, such as Ubisoft (UBSFF), have utilized the game’s balance board controller into other titles, such as “Shaun White Snowboarding.”

  4. Baby Shaker • ‘Baby Shaker’ was an iPhone application. As with most iPhone apps, the phone can be shaken and moved to control the action on screen. In this primitive “game” however, you were presented with a cartoon picture of a baby and had to shake the iPhone to stop them crying. When you had shaken them enough, red crosses appeared over their eyes, signifying the fact they had died. The game caused huge upset with the public and two parents, whose babies were victims of being shaken, protested outside an Apple store and subsequently, the application has been taken off the iPhone store as of 2009.

  5. 2009 • VGChartz reported last week that roughly 8.6 million units of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 were sold in the first week (five days of sales) after selling around 6.4 million units on the first day. As many would have predicted from this ratio of day one to week one sales, week two saw an enormous dropoff of around 80%. This puts week two sales at around 1.7 million units – more than many games sell in their first week – and takes total sales to date over 10 million units in just twelve days of release. With five weeks of the year left, VGChartz estimates that total sales for 2009 should hit around 14.5 million units by December 31st and should position Modern Warfare 2 as the number 1 seller on PS3 and number 2 on Xbox 360 (behind Halo 3) – with just 7 weeks of sales.

  6. 2010 Halo Reach • (Reuters) - Microsoft said its new videogame "Halo: Reach" had racked up $200 million in global sales on its launch day, building strong momentum for the November debut of the Xbox 360 maker's new gaming system.

  7. 2010 Assassin’s Creed • Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood has sold over one million copies in it’s first week in Europe alone, which officially makes it “the best launch in the history of Ubisoft’s European sales, and our best-selling launch title ever,” according to Geoffroy Sardin, EMEA chief of marketing and sale at Ubisoft, in an interview with MCV. He also announced that the Assassin’s Creed series as a whole has sold more than 20 million copies since the release of the first Assassin’s Creed back in 2007.Read: Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood Hits 1 Million Sales In Europe [Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood Sells 1 Million In Europe In First Week, Franchise Hits Over 20 Million In Sales] » TFTS – Technology, Gadgets & Curiosities

  8. New football game makes £28.93m; Second best ever day one UK sales; EA thanks retail for successEA’s FIFA 11 sold a staggering 821,000 units in its opening weekend in the UK, MCV can reveal. In total the game made £28.93m, which in itself is more than the total value of the UK video games market in any single week so far in 2010 – including weeks that saw massive releases such as Halo Reach and Red Dead Redemption hit retail.FIFA 11 also enjoyed the second biggest 24-hour launch sell-through (684,602 units) in UK history, making it second only to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (1.23m units).

  9. 2010 Call Of Duty Black Ops • Activision's latest video gameCall of Duty: Black Ops have surpassed the $1 billion mark in worldwide sales in just about 42 days from its launch on Nov.9. In its first five days alone, the game sold more than $650 million worldwide, outpacing theatrical box office, book and video game sales records for five-day worldwide sell through in dollars, according to internal Activision estimates and boxofficemojo.com.  • The game exceeded Activision's previous five-day worldwide record of $550 million set by last year's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.On the opening day itself, the game set a sales record of raking in $360 million from North America and the United Kingdom alone in the first 24 hours of its release, as compared to last year's estimated day-one sell-through of $310 million for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in North America and the United Kingdom.

  10. GT5 • Gran Turismo 5 has dethroned Call of Duty: Black Ops from the top spot of the UK's weekly game sales lists, as the insanely-long-time-developed game begins its run to actually becoming profitable. • The game is also in 3D, the next generation of games. 3D has recently hit the video game market and will continue to revolutionise the way that gamers play

  11. Nintendo 3DS • The Nintendo 3DS is an upcoming portable game console by Nintendo, which can produce "3D effects without the need for any special glasses" via a process called autostereoscopy. It will be released in Japan on February 26, 2011 for ¥25,000, in Europe on March 25, 2011 (at a retailer-defined price) and in North America on March 27, 2011 priced at $249.99.
