  2. In India, the same nation where we are living… • Every 15 seconds, a child dies due to neonatal diseases, • Every minute a child dies of pneumonia, • 2 million children die before they reach the age of five, • 20% of the world's child death occurs here. mail2disha@gmail.com mail2ekam@gmail.com

  3. The condition of poor children in India is really appalling... “9.7 million children are dying globally before they reach the age of five, out of which India accounts for 2.1 million” - State of the World’s Children 2008 report on Child Survival, released by UNICEF. mail2disha@gmail.com mail2ekam@gmail.com

  4. The State is no different too… In Tamilnadu, • 57 children per 1000 die before they reach 5 years of age • 35 infants pass away per 1000 live births • 15,231 infants died during 2008 – 09 - Government statistics mail2disha@gmail.com mail2ekam@gmail.com

  5. A poor child’s life is invariably under risk due to… • Malnutrition & poverty • Poor hygienic & sanitary conditions • Infectious agents • Pollutants • Lack of access to quality health care and expensive life saving treatments… mail2disha@gmail.com mail2ekam@gmail.com

  6. The price the poor have to pay for quality health care… "I am an ordinary woman from the rural-poor community, my new born baby was diagnosed with  severe infection in the blood and lungs, having breathing difficulty needing ventilator support .Given the medical complications & the urgency to save my baby's life, I admitted him at a private hospital. My husband was the only bread winner with a meager income. Nevertheless, we borrowed money from neighbors' & financiers and exhausted all our resources completely. My baby was operated successfully and recovered too. But from being poor, we have now become poorer. Most part of the meager income we make, goes towards the debts and now we are not able to afford good education & further health care for our child....” Jyothi – a poor Indian mother, Kancheepuram, Tamilnadu. mail2disha@gmail.com mail2ekam@gmail.com

  7. A wish… “Quality health care & Life saving treatments at affordable costs for the poor & underprivileged children in Tamilnadu” Sounds very much a dream?? • What if this dream can come true?  • What if a mission is conceived to assure better hope for the lives of thousands of poor children?  • Will you be interested to give a hand & be part of such a dream mission? • Will you help in adding value to a poor child’s life? mail2disha@gmail.com mail2ekam@gmail.com

  8. “No child should be refused of quality health care because of financial constraints”… • 'Paripoorna Bala Suraksha (PBS)' - a joint venture of Disha & Ekam • To provide a holistic, affordable & sustainable solution for quality health care for all the poor and under-privileged children in Tamil Nadu • To reduce child mortality through sustained strengthening of health systems with increased community participation. • To extend the reach of Govt insurance schemes and complement the government • To provide additional medical support for poor children by means of a specific insurance scheme (called ‘Paripoorna’) • To extend monetary support on emergency basis for the underprivileged children, who are not covered under any insurance (or) exceeding the coverage. • Complete Details of Project 'Paripoorna Bala Suraksha (PBS)' mail2disha@gmail.com mail2ekam@gmail.com

  9. Light a new hope this new year… • ‘Paripoorna’ - an insurance scheme - dedicated for poor & underprivileged children • Piloted in Chennai this year (2010) with 17 Network hospitals • Insurance coverage up to a maximum of Rs.1 Lakh per annum for a child • ALL the medical and/or surgical procedures are covered (with no exceptions) • 10,000 very poor kids identified by NGOs seek your support • Rag pickers, Street children, Migrant children, Child beggars and Pavement dwellers • Children who are not under a proper family setup - orphans, single parented, Disabled children, etc • Sponsor a poor kid’s health care at just Rs.221/- per year (annual premium) mail2disha@gmail.com mail2ekam@gmail.com

  10. Add value to their lives… • If this has reached you, then consider yourself as having the power to bless a very deserving child, perhaps ailing, and help the kid receive timely care at the hour of need. • Would you be one among the guardian angels these children are seeking? • Would you be willing to do the possible (Rs.221 per child)….Not much more than a pizza dinner or a prepaid recharge. But used the right way, it could go far and make a significant effect in the life of a child… how many children can you save? • The children’s details, along with the respective sponsors will be made transparent in our websites (in a couple of weeks) - http://disha.resolve.at , http://www.ekamoneness.org. • The track updates (hospitalization, medical screening, diagnosis, etc) of the enrolled children will be published online too… mail2disha@gmail.com mail2ekam@gmail.com
