  9. Homework • Nightly homework (Monday-Thursday) • Neatly completed and returned the next day • Please review with your child before returned

Homework Components • Spelling: Spelling Choice Science/Social Studies: varies depending on the unit. • Math: Skill practice pages Language Arts: Review of lesson taught that day. • Reading Log: Stamped at the end of the week. • Vocabulary: will be content specific (social studies, science, or math)

Standards Language Arts Word Analysis, Fluency, and Vocabulary = 34% Reading Comprehension = 23% Literary Response and Analysis = 9% Written Conventions = 22% Writing Strategies = 12% Mathematics Number Sense = 58% Algebra and Functions = 9% Measurement and Geometry = 22% Statistics, Data Analysis, and Probability = 11%

  12. Assessment & Grading Assessments There will be weekly tests in spelling and language arts. Study guides will be provided and assessments will be announced in advance. Tests will be returned in their Tuesday folders. Grading A: Advanced 90%-100% B: Proficient 80%-89% C: Basic 70%-79% D: Below Basic 60%-69% F: Far Below Basic 0-59%

Tips for Reading Comprehension • EXPOSITORY text is important (non-fiction) • Ask your child about cause and effect from the story • Ask your child questions about what they read… • Tell me in your own words what happened in the story • Describe what happened at the end of the story • Tell me about two important details

  14. Volunteers • Please sign up for a time and day of the week you are available to help. • Ways to volunteer: Room Parent, Pictures, Science Lab, Netbooks Cart, P.E., Art Masters, Game Room, MI Activities
