Parent Night 2012. Mrs. Riggins’ Class. Early Morning Care. Do not drop your child off before 7:15. Early morning care is from 6:30-7:15. If for some reason they need to be dropped off early, they must pay $3 for early morning care.

  1. Parent Night 2012 Mrs. Riggins’ Class

Early Morning Care • Do not drop your child off before 7:15. • Early morning care is from 6:30-7:15. • If for some reason they need to be dropped off early, they must pay $3 for early morning care. • This includes if they miss the bus and you have to leave for work early. • Please walk them to Mrs. Wagner’s room (C3) to sign them in.

  3. Transportation and Absence Notices • All transportation notes must be handwritten /typed and brought in the morning of the change. • Note should include your child’s first and last name and have your signature! • Absence excuses need to be brought to school within 3 days after the absence. These must also include your child’s first and last name. • Please do not email transportation or absence excuses to me since the front office is in charge of these notes.

  4. Parent/Teacher Conferences • I am always available to discuss your child in person or via telephone. • E-mail is the best way to set up a time and day for the conference. You may also call the school and leave a message. • Things you may need to discuss: • Grades • Behavior • Other special concerns • *Please see conference schedule*

  5. Room Mom / Parties • Room Mom- Beth Tillman • Co-Room Moms- Aubrey White and Tonya Youngblood • Beth will contact you when there are special events going on in the classroom to let you know how you can help.

  6. Curriculum • Math • Hands-on AMSTI Math • Science • Hands-on AMSTI Science • Reading • ARI (vocabulary, strategy, skill, fluency, word work) • Skill Marks (See grading rubric in your child’s blue folder) • Alabama History • Writing/Language Arts • Writing is skill based (See grading rubric in your child’s blue folder) • Language will consists of grammar assessments.

  7. BINDERS • Front left pocket – front left pocket, any sheets in here need to be taken out daily and “left” at home • Agenda • Reading Log – Thank you for doing such an excellent job on helping your child complete this each night (15 minutes a night on Mon – Thurs) • Right back pocket– please sign these papers and return back to school the next day • All morning work/daily class work is found behind this pocket and will be completed all school • Study guides for all tests/quizzes can be found behind the study guide divider

  8. ABC Folders • Attendance, Behavior, Curriculum • Blue Progress folders • Come home with child each Wednesday • Left Side will contain: • School Newsletter • School Flyers • Right Side will contain: • ABC card (to be signed and returned) • Graded Papers (discuss with child and return)

  12. Class Discipline Policy • Our Classroom Rules Are: • Have integrity • Use your manners • Do unto “otters” as you would have them do unto you • Work well together: synergize/cooperate

Behavior Consequences • 1st violation results in a warning. • 2nd violation results in silent lunch, silent snack or loss of recess to be decided by the teacher. • 3rd violation results in parent notification through a discipline note. • 4th violation results in work time in another classroom. • 5th violation results in an office referral.

  14. Homework Policy • Standard Homework: • Weekly Math Review Test(study each night) • Weekly word work and vocabulary tests (Begins Friday Sept. 21st ) • Reading Log (due every Friday) • Other homework, such as math practice, special projects, or study guides will be sent home throughout the week. I will notify you of upcoming tests in the newsletter. • Late or missing homework will result in silent lunch or missed recess and a mark on the tracking sheet.

Tests • Math review quiz (10 – 12 problems weekly similar to the daily math review which can be found behind your child’s morning work section and on our blog!) http://podcasts.shelbyed.k12.al.us/lhenderson/ • Vocabulary (8 – 10 words which can be found in your child’s weekly newsletter as well as behind their study guide section of their binder starting Sept. 17th

  16. Tests • Word Study (10 words, 8 of which can be found in your child’s weekly newsletter as well in the study guide section of their binder. Twoof the words will not be studied, but will be on the test to see if your child can follow the word study pattern.) • All other tests will have study guides that can be found behind the study guide section in their binder. Study guides will be handed out at least 3 days before the test if not more.
