  1. Geocoding in GeoMedia 6.0 - Workshop Ramesh Ramani, Application Engineer ramesh.ramani@intergraph.com

  2. Agenda • Overview of address geocoding expansion pack • Find Address command • Geocode Addresses command • Use of multiple geocoding data sets • Publish Address Geocoding Index File Utility

  3. Overview • Geocoding tool available for GeoMedia/GeoMedia Pro 6.0 as free expansion pack. • Download from here: http://support.intergraph.com • Requirements: GeoMedia or GeoMedia Professional - hot fix 06.00.34.57 or higher.

  4. Overview • Address Geocoding Expansion Pack delivers the components that will facilitate the user to perform geocoding operation on an address specified in text format, perform bulk geocoding on a set of addresses, build the Address Geocoding Index (AGI) files, etc

  5. Commands and Utilities • Commands available in GeoMedia • Find Address – locate single address • Geocode Addresses – locate addresses stored in warehouse table • Utilities • Publish Address Geocoding Index File – build address warehouse

  6. Basic Operation

  7. Functional Overview Basic operations involved in Address Geocoding: Index Building—Processing the source data and building an Address Geocoding Index file. Done through the Address Geocoding Index Utility. Address Matching—Taking a fully parsed input attribute and finding the best match in the index.

  8. Find Address A view navigational tool that finds the location of an input address and displays it as a point centered in a map window. Find Address displays first, optional settings are viewed by selecting Options button. A directory and dataset from directory must be selected. Address format may be selected. Match score ranges from 0 to 100, match scores equal to or greater than this value will be geocoded. Point offset can be defined.

  9. Geocode Addresses Geocode Addresses dialog, user will select input table, directory, dataset, format and if necessary, select attributes for each required address element. Output attributes can be selected, and advanced options accessed.

  10. Output Attributes/Advanced Propertiesfor Geocode Address query Standard GeoMedia Output Attributes dialog. Advanced settings include minimum match score and offset distances of point location.

  11. Geocoding Multiple Datasets • Possible to geocode multiple datasets in one operation using “Geocode Address” • Use geocoding directory that references multiple datasets • Example DB: Address information in 2 different states; geocoded against centerlines of the 2 different states.

  12. Publish Address Geocoding Index Utility • Address geocoding is the task of finding a geographical location given an address string. • To perform this task, a potentially very large set of reference data relating addresses and spatial geometry is used. Preprocessing this reference data can significantly accelerate the search. The preprocessed index structure is stored in the Address Geocoding Index (AGI) file (.agi), which is an Intergraph proprietary binary format containing a complete geocoding index.

  13. Publish Address Geocoding Index Utility • The Publish Address Geocoding Index utility builds a geocoding index based on a user- specified geocoding model file (.xml). • US Streets with Zones, US Zip codes, US Cities – has been provided by default with the software.

  14. Publish AGI Step 1 Select Geocoding Model file, or load profile of previous run of wizard which was saved.

  15. Publish AGI Step 2 Select GeoMedia warehouse connection and feature class needed to build the index. Options for concurrent streets, reverse geocoding (web service only), empty addresses.

  16. Publish AGI Step3 Select address definition (defined in Geocoding Model file), and attributes for each address element.

  17. Publish AGI Step 4 Define address range values for centerline geocoding.

  18. Publish AGI Step 5 Matching index is defined for improved geocoding performance. Up to 8 characters can be used to define the matching index for one or more address elements. Index can be created, deleted or modified.

  19. Add or Modify Matching Index Add or modify matching index dialog, user must select the number of characters, address element and method. Methods available are ‘sounds like’ for English, and exact match.

  20. Publish AGI Step 6 Select the output folder and output AGI filename.

  21. Publish AGI Step 7 Specify geocoding directory to create or append, output dataset name, and a description of the dataset.

  22. Publish AGI Step 8 Review your input and output configuration before you build the index. Select Save Profile to have your input and output saved for the next time the index needs to be updated.

  23. Publish AGI Step 9 Processing and results page displays current status of process, and when complete, the final results. Messages and processing information can be saved in a log file for review later.

  24. Workshop Workshop
