Backchanneling ‘Backchannel noise’ is a form of monitoring device to show the other participant that you are listeninge.g. ‘hmm’, ‘ok’ • What kinds of backchannel noise do you use in conversation? • When do you tend to use backchanneling? e.g. when listening to a friend discuss her boyfriend issues.
