The National Heritage Institute of the Czech Republic is a professional body whose responsibility is to protect, study, document, and present the cultural heritage fund of the Czech Republic. • The main task of the Institute's specialists is to draw the public's attention to cultural, artistic, and technical qualities • which benefit not only us, but future generations as well. It would be a pity to pass by such qualities without noticing them. • Perspective of an effective heritage protection strategy is in partnership with public • Building of this partnership through education

Education as the key instrument improving quality of the care for the cultural heritage of the Czech Republic • Despite the heritage protection and care has very long tradition • in the Czech Republic (the first systhematic steps were done • in the last third of the 19th century), the heritage education started in this country quite recently, around fifteen years ago. After the velvet revolution in 1989 many activities supporting • re-development of dynamic and live civic society appeared. • Also professionals of the National Heritage Institute initiated wider cooperation with public as an important partner of the heritage protection and care. Side by side with a good legislative and professional bodies the real effect of heritage protection must be carried out with public assistence. Education of young generation-representative of a perspective future is one • of the most important goals. • Since 2005 started the new research project supported by • the Czech Ministry of Culture with the main aim to • create and diseminate pilot education programmes in all regions with emphasize on special local values of heritage fund.

  4. Projects are based on principle of an active discovery initiaded • by young people themselves. Interactive forming of relationships to domestic cultural heritage enables to reveal the role • of the national heritage in European context and to understand its uniqueness as a part of modern European identity. They are instrumental both to effective presentations of monumental values and to the development of intelligence, creativity and value orientation of target groups, in favour of voluntary and sustainable care for cultural heritage. • The network of educational centres of NHI secures relevance and accessibility of project outputs; the centres cooperate on forming, implementation and evaluation of educational programs. The outputs of the research project will provide methodical support • for both state and non-state heritage care, coming in useful on all levels of formal education and in non-profit sector. We ´d like to share our original solutions on international platform, especially experience from still running (and successful) programmes with emphasizes on active discovery of local monuments and discovery of traditional craft skills. In our focus there are also special programmes for socially handicaped groups (for instance deff and blind people or drug dependents – heritage as symbol of quality and stability).

  5. The core objective is an applied research and development; • their results will gain an effective social use. They contribute the creation of the system of educational programs in the sphere of movable and immovable cultural heritage both in historical seats and cultural landscape. The target groups are children and youth, families with children, but also seniors and people physically and psychically disabled. • In all programmes the aspect of partnership (both for cofinancing and special professional services) plays very important role. It means cooperation with local authorities, other cultural institutions, universities and NGOs.

  20. Lecturers of heritage education tours are specialists from the National Heritage Institute and students of the South Bohemian University Translated education sheets are used for lessons of English and German in secondary schools
