  1. Adding value to our planning reports – matt zema 27 October 2011

  2. Upcoming changes • AEMO is introducing national forecasting which will result in transparency for all stakeholders. • We have listened to your feedback and will be making changes to our planning reports to better reflect stakeholder’s needs. • Part of our ongoing commitment to meaningful stakeholder engagement.

  3. NATIONAL FORECASTING AEMO uses electricity and gas demand forecasts for: • Market Operation (NEM, DWGM, STTM). • Within one year out, operational tools used (e.g. new DFS). • This project looks at forecasts out one year and more. • National Transmission Planning (NTNDP). • Assessing the adequacy of supplies (ESOO, GSOO). • Victorian Infrastructure Planning (VAPR). • AEMO revenue fee setting. • Provision of information to stakeholders.

  4. NATIONAL FORECASTING Existing forecasts currently used are being: • Developed across different organisations for different purposes (with different definitions of demand). • Produced using different input assumptions, approaches and methodologies (unclear). • Published in multiple documents or electronic files, with very little information on the above two points.

  5. NATIONAL FORECASTING Emerging challenges for consumption forecasting

  6. Timely and relevant information • By midway through 2012 we will electronically publish demand forecasts for electricity. • Future plans to do the same for Gas.

  7. Review of planning reports • Understanding what our stakeholders want from the suite of information we produce. • How we present the information in the most timely and effective way – electronic? printed reports? • Stakeholder feedback is essential. We need your input through the workshop today, feedback online or via email planning@aemo.com.au
