  2. 1-1 Rates Vocabulary: Rate- a ratio that compares 2 quantities with different kinds of units. Example: 160 beats 2 minutes Unit Rate- when a rate is simplified so that it has a denominator of 1.

  3. Some common unit rates: • Miles per hour- average speed • Miles per gallon- gas mileage • Price per pound- unit price You turn a rate into a unit rate by simplifying the denominator to 1.

  4. Ex 1: 160 beats Write as a fraction 2 minutes Ex 1: 160 beats Divide numerator and denominator by 2 ÷2 ÷2 2 minutes 80 beats Simplify 1 minute

  5. Lets try it! Grab a white board and a marker. Adrienne biked 24 miles in 4 hours. If she biked at a constant speed, how many miles did she ride in 1 hour? 24 mi. 4 hrs. Write it as a fraction 24 ÷ 4 4 ÷ 4 Divide numerator and denominator by 4 6 mi. 1 hr. Simplify
