It is estimated that there will be an increase in purchases of basketball related goods by Asian American shoppers due to the sudden uprising of NBA player Jeremy Lin. • "I can see how Jeremy Lin will cause the basketball market to grow for Asian consumers if he has not already done so yet," said Xue Li, a student at Michigan State University. "There has never been an Asian superstar like this in the history of the NBA," said Li.

  3. Lin was never drafted and cut by multiple teams. Now he is known for making an athletic miracle in the sport of basketball by leading the New York Knicks to six straight wins. • "He is also a symbol for Asians and let's them know that they can achieve in life as well," said Li.

Minyue Sun, an Asian-American student at MSU, also recognizes the symbolic importance of Lin’s success. • "I strongly believe and personally know many other Asians that are making sure they don't miss a game he plays in," said Sun. "I believe Lin is and will continue to stimulate the economy." • Since there are so few Asian basketball players in the NBA, Lin’s impact has been great. • "Lin shows major inspiration to other Asians by letting them know that sports do not discriminate and that anyone can succeed," said Sun.

Ashley Wytka, 20, of Chesterfield, Michigan, thinks that this “Linsanity,” as fans are referring to his performance on the court, could generate an increase in sales. • "Jeremy Lin can very well be the new NBA inspiration to all Asian-Americans similar to Yao Ming which should end up in an increase of marketing sales,” said Wytka, a Hospitality Business major at MSU.

  6. Matthew Yoon, 20, does not think that Lin’s NBA stardom will positively or negatively affect the market of basketball merchandise. • "I don't really think that Jeremy Lin's success has changed or encouraged Asians to go out and buy more basketball stuff," said Yoon, a student at MSU.

Kimberly Rizzo, also a student at MSU, believes that Lin is a cross-cultural idol that could increase revenue. • "Jeremy Lin is a perfection connection for Asians and Asian Americans to true western culture,” said Rizzo. "Lin can be the key for an untapped NBA market in the Asian community for sure"
