  2. The questions are: • What is considered to be a house today? • In which ways can “technology” be a driving force for the transformation of housing today?

  3. What does “house”mean? House used as a shelter for people and animals as well (URL 1). It is a space where people carry on their life inside of it. At the ancient ages, first time this space is a cave and people start to carry on their life inside of caves. Figure 1: URL 2

  4. According to human necessities, food collection was started with first experiences of agriculture and people needed more spaces such as food stores and ovens to increasing food processing (Acar,1996). Houses were developed and started to do a house as a rectangular form with clay and lime mixture. After that, agriculture was developed and to processing, storage and circulation of products, needed technology of pots (Acar, 1996). So, human necessities were increased day after day. They had more functions to do and houses should be designed more bigger. Figure 2: Sey, Y. (1996).

  5. After houses were developed as more, it was started to arrange it according to necessities and lifestyle of people. For examples; courtyards were designed for necessities and when people’s life and necessities changed, houses were also improved and changed. So there is not only one style houses. Lux houses were started to organize. This is the starting point for architecture and design as well. Figure 3: URL 3

  6. After that points, population of people were increased and a new multi-story type of building was started to design (Abbasoglu, 1996). Life of people changed and new life style was started. So, modern style was also started. • What is considered to be a “house”today? It is a three dimensional volumetric element which is organized according to new life of people and improvement of technology. • In which ways can “technology” be a driving force for the transformation of housing today? At the before periods, houses were organized according to human necessities but now it was organized according to technology. Modern villas, apartments, high-rise buildings, residences were designed and now skyscrapers are designed for new life of people.

  7. For example; according to new life style, some residence buildings are designed with inner garden. Sapphier tower is an example for this kind of design. Figure 4: URL 4

  8. The improvement of technological achievement is a key for development of modernity (Slessor, 1997). Technology is a transformation force for change the housing, today. Material usage, styles and lifestyle were changed through technology development. Organization of houses are designed according to technology as well. For instance; todays, every houses have kitchen but relation of the necessities, storage room is also essential to designed. Another example is gym rooms such as cardio rooms where includes bicycles and walking units. People start to organized this kind of functions in own villas. Actually, technology is a big factor to change human lifestyle. So, designs, organization of interiors are related with technology development.
