Registration is a multi-step process that takes about two-four weeks. • To register, you will need: • Social Security Number • 2x2 Photo • $525 (pay online by credit card or mail check/money order) • Apply for Step 1 through the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) https://apps.nbme.org/ciw2/prod/jsp/login.jsp
Steps for Registration Obtain USMLE ID Number Complete online application and pay fee Certification of Identification Form Verification by the Keck School Obtain scheduling permit Schedule exam at Prometric Center
After you submit your request for USMLE ID, you will receive an email with a USMLE ID number and temporary password. Log back into the NBME website and complete application for USMLE Step 1.

Eligibility Period Select a three month window for when you will take the exam May, June, July or June, July, August One time extension if you don’t take exam during the Eligibility Period
Print and complete Certification of ID and attach photo. Bring this form to the Office of Student Affairs, KAM 100B. Submit electronic application. Registrar will verify your enrollment when application is processed. Complete Step 1 Application
Next Steps NBME will process your registration and email you to log into the site and obtain your Step 1 scheduling permit. It is essential that you telephone the Prometric Test Scheduling number to schedule your exam date as soon as you receive your Scheduling Permit from the NBME. Keep your Scheduling Permit in a safe location (where you can find it!) as you will NOT be able to enter the test center on the day of the exam without the permit.
