  6. Forms and Conventions • In what ways does your magazine use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real music magazines? My magazine uses

  7. Representational Issues • How does your magazine represent particular social groups? My magazine target audience was more for serious musicians and for fans of the development of alternative music. With the use of black and white images my magazine appears to be more mature and sophisticated . My magazine represents a

  8. Institutions • What kind of institution might distribute your magazine and why? I imagine that as my magazine is targeted to musicians that it would be sold in music stores/guitar shops. My magazine features articles on instruments so it would appeal to my target audience if I marketed most of my magazines to guitar shops. As well as in book stores like WH Smith and at some new agents. WH Smith sells a lot of magazine from different types of genres and companies so my magazine would be suitable to be distributed by WH Smith. Taking into consideration that my target audience is musicians I think it would good if my magazine were being distributed my venues, this would be good as the a lot of the audiences would be interested about new acts or the best live acts to go and see. At supermarkets like tesco which have a broad spread of magazines on sale it would be good to sell my magazine there as tesco is an everyday store so it would be of easy access to my target audience.

  9. Target Audience Who would be the target audience for your magazine? My target audience are young musicians who are fans of alternative /grunge music. My magazine focuses on the influence from the birth of alternative music in the late 80s/early 90s which would extend my target audience to a more older audience. My magazine also shows new of the same genre which attracts a younger audience to my magazine. So taking this in mind on my magazine I had to create a happy medium between the older bands with the new bands. I Featured two bands famous for creating the grunge sound and the “alternative “look with bands like Nirvana and the Foo Fighters. This would appeal to my target audience as those bands are legends in the genre and have influenced the alternative music a lot, so featuring them in my magazine would attract musicians who are inspired my their music to buy it. Also featuring alternative indie band Arcade fire attracted the younger side of my target audience as they a trend in terms of the current zeitgeist they are extremely popular.

  10. Addressing the readership • How did you attract / address your audience? • In my magazine I tapped into the current zeitgeist to attract my audience to my magazine featuring the most currents bands like Arcade fire, Bon Iver, The Vaccines in my magazine will attract my audience. As I would feature all the latest bands in the genre.

  11. Technical/Construction Issues • What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing your magazine? (software, photography etc) I took my photos using a Nikon D300 Slr camera which allowed my photos to come out looking professional. I used Photoshop for my front cover which I found extremely difficult to use having no real experience using it. Therefore for my contents page and my double page spread I used Microsoft Publisher, this was a lot more successful as It was less time consuming than Photoshop. For using my audience research I used PowerPoint as it allowed my to upload each slide individually .

  12. Comparisons between prelim and main tasks. • Looking back to your school magazine cover, what do you feel you have learnt between creating that and creating your music magazine? How did the school magazine task help?
