  5. Regional Seminar on E-Commerce When: December 11-14, 2001 Where: Bangalore India Results: 1. Set up a voluntary group of legal experts on Cyber laws 2. Draw guidelines, good practices, information security and web certification program 3. Enhance ICT infrastructure, network and access facilities in rural areas. 4. Encourage the establishment of an E-Commerce Council at local government level from various stakeholders 5.   6. Meeting on Bridging the Digital Divide When: Feb. 11-14, 2002 Where: New Delhi, India Results: 1. The meeting discussed the approaches of bringing the digital divide which include affordable Internet access, best practices, partnerships and multimedia 2. Developed common APT Proposals for WTDC-02 such as: - HRD and Enhancement of ICT Literacy - Bridging the digital divide - Migrating Strategies to Next Generation Networks - Info-security - Positive use of Internet - Committee on Strategic Plan for WTDC - Regulatory Initiatives - International Internet Connection and Charging EXIT < > MAIN MENU

  7. Seminar on Digital Opportunity for all: ICT& the Fight Against Poverty When: 29 July to August 1, 2002 Where: Chiang Rai, Thailand Results: 1. The possibility of the establishment of an A-P Institute of Information Technology for Poverty Reduction (APIITPR) 2. Enhancement of the use ICT for poverty reduction that encompass the support at all levels. 3. Promote establishment of MCTs in rural areas 4. Promotion of regional initiatives on ICT and sustainable development in keeping with the goals of the Millennium Declaration and the World Summit on Sustainable Development < > MAIN MENU EXIT

The Pacific Regional Meeting on ICT When: 15 & 18 April 2002, Suva Fiji Island Where: Suva, Fiji The meeting discussed the following key issues among other things: · Country experiences and Status of ICT development; · ICTs to promote services in rural areas; · Internet applications; · Implementation of Tokyo Action Planer; · WSIS Preparations; · Future Plans for development of ICTs in Pacific. < > MAIN MENU EXIT

Asia Pacific Forum on Telecommunication Policy and Regulation When: 6 to 18 May, 2002 Where: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Results: • Increase information sharing of regulatory development and experiences among members in the region; • Increase utilization of on-line consultation, electronic discussion board, websites including utilizing the APT website and APT e-mail reflector system. • Set up a Consultative group on Regulation (COR); to provide a voluntary resource for consultation on regulatory issues covering • Convergence; • Domain Name System; • Internet Charging Arrangements; • Consumer Protection; • Organize an annual Forum on Policy and Regulation to discuss the topics and issues of current interest; • Publish a Regulatory Compendium annually. < > MAIN MENU EXIT
