Egyptian and Nubian Empires Hyskos invaders rule defeat Egyptian army and rule Egypt from 1640-1570 BC Abraham leads the Hebrew people to Canaan, and eventually to Egypt during this time (Hyskos and Hebrews are racially similar ppl) Queen Ahhotep and pharaoh Kamose later drive the Hyskos out of Egypt (threatens Hebrew ppl) Egyptians enslaved the Hebrew people for in between 100-400 years. Later left in what is known as the “Exodus”

New Kingdom of Egypt • This period witnesses pharaohs strengthening Egypt through creation of an empire • Became conquerors through the use of bronze weapons and chariots • Hatshepsut encouraged trade rather than war • Her stepson (heir) Thutmose led invasions eastward into Palestine and Syria. Later he invades Nubia • New Kingdom was the best time in Egyptian history even up to today

New Kingdom of Egypt (cont.) • Egyptian conquest into Syria and Palestine conflicted with Hittite interest (from yesterday) • Pharaoh Ramses II and Hittite King make a treaty– “peace and brotherhood between us forever” • Pharaohs of this era built their tombs under cliffs in Thebes. They also built great palaces and temples • Ramses II was the most notorious pharaoh for building structures of himself
