Genetically Engineered Materials Science & Engineering Center Mehmet Sarikaya, University of Washington, DMR 0520567 GEPI-Assisted Co-Assembly of Functional Nanostructures • In the fabrication of microarrays, nano-entities are spatially immobilized on an inorganic surface, directly, via various lithography techniques, e.g., soft lithography, dip-pen lithography, and photolithography, all using either silane or thiols as linkers, that have limitations and potential problems; • Using a GEPI-based linker approach (genetically-engineered peptide for inorganic) we developed a versatile procedure for targeted immobilization of nano-entities; • Based on targeted self-assembly, the new approach is applicable for a diversity of biomolecules and nanoparticles, functionalized with GEPI, for a wide range of proteomics, enzymatics, and sensor applications.
