  2. Read F-50 • Discuss what you see in the photograph on the bottom of F-50 • Copy the challenge question. Add “explain why.” • Copy the vocabulary: Extreme (spring) tide: A tide that is unusually high or low Happen when the moon, sun and earth are lined up and the combined gravitational pull of the sun and moon is greatest. High tide: The time when the tide reaches the highest level. Low tide: The time when the tide reaches the lowest level. Tides: The regular rising and falling of the ocean’s surface.

  3. Individually, brainstorm a list of ideas you know about the word “tides”. (3 minutes) Share your ideas with your table group • Glue in student sheet 82.1 (a,b,c). • Answer: analysis 1 and 2 vocabulary challenge question
