Sustainable Land Policy in Europe: Analysis and Modelling of Land Readjustment Tools

This project aims to analyze and model appropriate land readjustment tools for a sustainable land policy in Europe. It will investigate existing tools, conduct comparative analysis, and develop an ideal land readjustment tool with accompanying instruments. The project will disseminate its findings through publications, workshops, and conferences, ultimately leading to improved knowledge, optimized approaches, and sustainable development in economic, social, and environmental terms.

Intention and Motivation • Description of situation concerning Land Readjustment in Europe: • a very diffuse and terminologically confuse scene • different urban and rural land readjustment tools • additional complications regarding Land Consolidation • (on the one hand: only as a redesign of parcels, • on the other hand: combined with a bundle of infrastructural measures) • Description of scientific or specific activities concerning Land Consolidation by • FIG • FAO • some high schools, particularly in Germany and Netherlands • Institutional INTERREG III C cooperation of some European agencies

Need for Research • Systematic survey of existing relevant Land Readjustment approaches in Europe • Comparative analysis and evaluation of these approaches • (probably: case studies and inclusion of external experts) • Modelling of an „Ideal Typically Land Readjustment Tool“ as core of a tool box with additional accompanying instruments

Intended Output and Dissemination of Results • Competent comprehensive and comparable description of relevant Land Readjustment tools in Europe • Publication in reports / booklets • Accompanying interactive workshops of the partners • Tentative new definitions of land readjustment issues • Project conferences with documentation • Final International Conference with final report

Expected Outcome • Broadened knowledge and awareness concerning Land Readjustment • Optimized and impact oriented Land Readjustment approaches on an analytical and scientific base • Land Readjustment toolbox as help for countries going ahead in establishment of land readjustment legislation • Better education in land and real estate property related issues • Long term impacts: sustainable development in economic, social and environmental terms
