  3. Exegesis or Eisegesis Exegesis - is a critical explanation or interpretation of a text, especially a religious text. Eisegesis - is the process of misinterpreting a text in such a way that it introduces one's own ideas, reading into the text.

  4. Why Inductive Bible Study? Inductive simply means to use ”logic induction” i.e. (reasoning = faith + reason) by examining the particulars, facts and essence of a text first before making any conclusions. Inductive Bible Study enhances the exegesis (Bible Study) process by enabling us to read the Bible for all its impact, value and significance.

  5. BREAK IT DOWN OBSERVATIONS (many observations) INTERPRETATION (one meaning) APPLICATIONS (to many applications)

  7. STEPS TO OBSERVATION • Looking at the whole picture. • Looking at the individual parts. • Looking at the fine details.

  8. LOOKING AT THE WHOLE PICTURE • Read the entire context. • Read the passage with care. • Read repeatedly • Read thoughtfully • Read patiently • Record your impressions. • Record initial facts.

  9. The 5 W’s • Who? • What? • When? • Where? • Why?

  10. LOOKING AT THE INDIVIDUAL PARTS • Look for structure. • Look for sections. • Look for changes in audience.

  11. Outlining • Look for a “topic sentence”. • Look for “supporting sentences”. • Look for “details or examples”.

  12. LOOKING AT THE FINE DETAILS • Isolate the details that stand out. • Ask questions that are appropriate to find out more about the details. • Use outside tools to understand more.
