Dealing with different behaviours • The Slacker:The lazy, unmotivated one who usually ends up being carried by everyone else. • The Bossy One:The over-bearing one who seems to believe they have a right to be in charge. • The Keen One:Seems to have nothing better to do than work, tends to work a bit too hard…

Dealing with different behaviours • The Off-tangent: Full of energy, but not for the subject in hand…would be great if they could only focus on the task in hand. • The Quiet One: Withdrawn so far no one really knows what is actually going on in their head… or what their role is… • The Negative: Everything is greeted with cynicism and negativity, or even outright blocking or nit-picking behaviour.

  6. Dealing with different behaviours How are they disruptive? What effect do they have on the rest of the group? Why might they be behaving like this? How might you limit the damage they cause or resolve the issue?

Quick Tactics Create shadowing roles to mitigate for difficult individuals and roles ‘working groups’ Use an agenda to maintain order The president need not be the chairperson Agree ground rules for meetings Have job descriptions when you head into elections Encourage officers to set out their goals and publicise these
