    5. Gold is a useful mineral.

    6. Minerals are identified by performing tests on them.

    7. A light is shined on a mineral to see if the mineral will allow the light to pass through it.

    9. A mineral is checked for luster. Is it metallic? Is it glassy? Is it dull? Is it waxy?

    10. In a streak test, the mineral is rubbed on a black tile and a white tile to see the color of the streak it will leave on each tile.

    12. A mineral can be scratched with a penny and a nail to see how hard the mineral is.
