Academic Petitions Due by May 2, 2014 Placement exam required for Alg 2H, Math Anal H: April 1 during WISE and lunch English will assess using an in-class essay Spring Testing All current 9th grade students will take the STAR Life Science exam on May 10, 2014 from 8-10 a.m. Final Exams June 10-13 Summer School • D & F Repeats: Students sign up with counselor by May 15, 2014 • Get Ahead Summer School available for a fee through the Conejo Schools Foundation: www.conejoschools.org Summer School dates are as follows Session 1: June 18-Jul 3 Session 2: July 7-24

  6. ENGLISH REQUIREMENT High School Graduation • Four years of English College/University, a.k.a. “A-G” : Four years of college prep (CP) level or higher. Must pass with grade of “C” or better. Sophomore year: English 10CP or 10H

  7. MATH REQUIREMENT High School Graduation • Three years of mathematics (equivalent of 30 credits) • One of the three years must meet or exceed Algebra 1. A-G Reqt: Three years of CP level or higher. Must pass with a grade of “C” or better. REQUIRED • Algebra 1 CP / H • Geometry CP / H • Algebra 2 CP / H 4th year RECOMMENDED (placement depends on grades earned in prior class) Math Analysis CP / H or Functions Stats and Trig CP AP Statistics or AP Calculus or Statistics CP Sophomore year: Follow math sequence above Some students will complete Algebra in grade 8 and therefore must go above and beyond to meet his/her 30 credits.

Social Science Requirement High School Graduation Each of the following • 1 year World History (or AP Euro) • 1 year US History • 1 semester U.S. Government & Politics • 1 semester Economics A-G Requirement: Must pass the following with a “C” or better 1 YEAR (gr. 10) • World History CP or AP European History 1 YEAR (gr. 11) • US History CP or AP US History 1 SEMESTER (gr. 12) • US Govt & Politics CP or AP US Govt & Politics 1 SEMESTER (gr. 12) • Economics CP or AP Macroeconomics Sophomore year: World History CP or AP European History

  9. Science Requirement High School Graduation • 1 year of a Biological Science • 1 year of a Physical Science (Geosciences or Chemistry) A-G Reqt: Two years of laboratory science. Must pass with “C” or better. 2 Years Required • Biology CP / H • Chemistry CP / H 3rdYear Recommended • AP Biology • AP Chemistry • AP Environmental Science • AP Physics • Anatomy & Physiology CP • Biotechnology CP • Forensic Science CP • Marine Science CP • Physics CP • Physiology H • Advanced Anatomy H (Teacher approval required) Sophomore year: Geosciences CP or Chemistry CP or H

Visual & Performing Art, World Language, & Career Technical Education A-G Reqt: Must take VPA and World Lang and pass with C’s or better: • 1 year of a Visual and Performing Art and • 2 years of World Language • 3 years of World Language recommended for many colleges High School Graduation • 1 year, chosen from ONE of the following subject areas: • Visual & Performing Art or • World Language or • Career Technical Education (CTE) course

Elective Requirement High School Graduation Every class taken above and beyond the previously listed graduation requirements will count towards the 75 credit elective requirement A-G Reqt: Must pass with “C” or better. 1 full year of a CP/H/AP level elective is required (above and beyond previously mentioned requirements) Sample elective classes include: Choir Band World Language Photography Theater Journalism and more!   13. Zangle Registration Dates: • Open window for online registration is: Tonight! • Students will meet individually with counselors through English classes: March 26-April 3 • During this meeting, students may pre-register for summer school for classes in which they earned a D or F.

  14. Zangle Registration Online tonight! Must log in with student id and password! After logging in, students add course requests to their Zangle account. Requests are discussed during the individual student meetings

Westlake Innovative Technology Academy (WIT)Coordinator: Dr. Laurie Looker, ext.1036llooker@conejo.k12.ca.us • For students in grades 10-12 • Focuses on college and career preparation in specific occupational fields involving technology and innovation • A “school within a school” program • Academy students take classes together as a cohort • Academy classes connect technology to the subject matter Interest meeting: Wednesday, March 26, WHS Library, 6 p.m.

T E S T I N G SAT • Reasoning exam • Required by: • UC • CSU • Most private colleges • 3 sections • Each section worth 800 points • NOT required for Community College ACT w Writing • Accepted by colleges in place of the SAT • Content based: • English • Writing • Mathematics • Science reasoning • If you take both the ACT and the SAT, colleges will use whichever score is higher! • PSAT/NMSQT • Preview of the types of questions found on the SAT • Can be taken by sophomores or juniors • Junior year scores are used to determine candidates for the National Merit Scholarships • Given in October at Westlake High School
