  1. News from ELAN SC of CARE CERN September 2008 F. Richard LAL/Orsay

  2. Outline • The ECFA meeting on LC detectors (Warsaw June 9-12) • The kickoff meeting of ILC Hi-grade (DESY August 29) • Workshops and deliverables • Conclusions F. Richard LAL/Orsay

  3. ECFA LC meeting on Detectors with 200 poarticipants • Talk given by R. Heuer: • ‘Expect period for decision taking on next steps in 2010 to 2012’ • ‘Need R&D and technical design work now to enable decisions’ • ‘Need global collaboration and stability on a long time scale’ • First review of LoI called by ILCSC (IDAG chaired by M. Davier) • Participation of CLIC representatives (talk by A. De Roeck) F. Richard LAL/Orsay

  4. ILC Roadmap • Recent statement of FALC Regarding the ILC, they state, "The availability of first results from the LHC are expected to show if the ILC is the correct route for a future linear collider or whether a higher energy reach, as could be obtained with CLIC, is required. The need to reach international agreements on siting and construction, and the current availability of R&D funds all suggest the potential of a construction decision for the ILC near the middle of the next decade." • This matches well with the new Roadmap aiming at 2012 F. Richard LAL/Orsay

  5. ILC Hi-grade Kick-off meeting • See: http://ilcagenda.linearcollider.org/conferenceOtherViews.py?view=standard&confId=2900 • CERN, DESY, IdF, INFN, Oxford • 5 M€ from EU • Governance, siting, coordination, outreach aspects for ILC • Within XFEL ordering by end of 2010 ~30 cavities with couplers, tuners used to establish the operating gradient for ILC • 2 participants from ELAN management L. Lutz and FR F. Richard LAL/Orsay

  6. ELAN supported Workshops F. Richard LAL/Orsay

  7. ELAN Notes • CARE/ELAN document-2008-001 • CLIC-Lecture given at the 2nd International School for Linear Colliders • F. 8. Plans & Deliverable(s) • In 2008, as we said at the CARE SC, our program is at a minimum (support to workshops) • 2008: Final Report of the Network • Will not be easy to fulfill since most conveners are heavily committed F. Richard LAL/Orsay

  9. Conclusions • Exciting period… • No ELAN specific activities but we help on various aspects • ELAN resources are usefully spent in travel money • Unclear on how to write the final report F. Richard LAL/Orsay
