  2. Class Survey • Have you ever played a game in which you collect money for completing different tasks? (Examples include Jurassic Park Builder, Ice Age Village, Bejeweled Blitz, Monopoly, etc.) • A – yes • B – no

  3. Do you have a strategy when playing these games? • A – yes • B – no

  4. Unit Rates • Think Fractions! • In a unit rate, the bottom number is ALWAYS 1! • Example: minimum wage is $7.25/hour

  5. Unit Rates – Problem 2 • A – 30 miles per inch • B – 15 miles per inch • C – 30 inches per mile • D – 15 inches per mile

  6. Proportions • Set up two equivalent rates in order to solve for an unknown • Cross multiply to find the unknown • Always be consistent with ratios! • Example: 5 apples / 4 oranges = 3 apples / x oranges

  7. Solving Proportions - Problem 2 • A – a =9 • B – a = 3 • C – a = 18 • D – a = 2

Jurassic Park Builder Considerations • Which dinosaurs earn the most money per minute? • If one dinosaur makes 5000 coins and another 10000 with a 4% bonus, how much of a bonus do I need to make the first dinosaur earn the same amount as the second? • If I upgrade my crops harbor, will I be making more food in less time? Does the production increase or decrease?

Temple Run Considerations • Is it better to buy the one time use Resurrection Wings or save up for the ultimate ones? • What is the best upgrade and why? • Who collected the most coins per meter? • Sara – 455 coins in 1000 meters • Bob – 100 coins in 250 meters • June – 248 coins in 500 meters

  11. Bejeweled Blitz Considerations • Which colored gem earns the most money? • How do special gems (Kanga Ruby, Phoenix, Blazing Steed, etc.) affect the cost and the score system? • Do I earn more points with a fire gem or a lightening gem? • How do I earn the most coins in a minute?
