  2. Welcome Back, now get to work! : ) Warm up: Solve the problem, but also write down two specific skills needed in order to solve this problem . In the seventh grade, there are 18 girls and 22 boys in band while in eighth grade there are 12 girls and 16 boys in band. What is the ratio of 7th grade girls to total band members. Write the simplified ratio in three different ways.

  3. Announcement: Test tomorrow!! : ) What will the test cover? • Rates • Unit rates • Proportions What will the test NOT cover? 1. Percent Proportion problems (will be on next test)

  4. At the end of the day…. We should be refreshed with what we learned before break and prepared to take the test tomorrow. Also, we should understand similar figures and how to solve for missing sides. This is really not difficult and it is really just a application problem based on what we have already learned about proportions.

  5. Test Review Question #1: Practicing finding and reducing ratios Solve the problem, but also write down 3 different skills needed in order to solve this problem. Marco made 20 more shots in basketball than he missed. If he made 80 shots, what was his ratio of made shots to misses? Show the ratio in three different ways.

  6. Test Review Question #2: Practicing finding unit rates Solve the problem and also write down the steps needed in order to find a unit rate. Find the unit rate if 8 pretzels have 960 calories.

  7. Test Review Question #3: Finding and comparing unit rates Solve the problem. Write down another real world example of when you would need to compare unit rates. Sarah took 12 minutes to run 3.2 miles, while James took 14 minutes to run 4.1 miles. Who runs the fastest?

  8. Test Review Question #4: Determining whether ratios are proportional. Decide whether the following ratios are proportional using two different methods. 5_ = 7_ 15 35

  9. Test Review Question #5: Creating a proportion to solve a problem. Create and solve the proportion needed in order to answer the problem. What must you do in order to make sure your proportion is set up correctly? The Newman family is having a party. They need 1.2 lbs of ice for every 15 guests. How much ice will they need for 26 guests?

  13. Test Review Question #8: Similar triangles word problem Draw pictures to help you solve! On the school grounds there are two flagpoles of different heights. On a sunny day, the shadows of these two flagpoles create similar triangles. The height of the first pole is 8.2 feet and its shadow is 12.7 feet. The shadow of the second pole is 22.3 feet. How tall is the second flagpole? Round to the nearest tenth.

  14. Test Review Question #9: Proportion application problem Cody is driving to the Kiawah Island. He looks at a map to find out how far of a drive it will be. On the map, Cody measures the distance to be 2.25 inches. How many miles does he have to drive if the map scale is 1 inch = 35 miles?
