Islam’s Art Islam (Muslim) World • art included: • pottery • textiles • rugs • ceramics • carved wood • involved geometric figures and patterns • designs created the impression of unending repetition • represent infinite nature of God • had taken variety of forms in different part of the Islam world • Spain, North Africa, India & the Middle East • forms they used included: • Muqarnas • Girih Tiles • Calligraphy • Arabesque (2 modes) • 1st mode recalls the principles that govern the order of the world • 2nd mode recalls the feminine nature of life giving

Islam’s Medicine • more advance than other regions during this time period • medicine showed variation & diversity • involved different regions and cultures • surrounding regions benefited from the discoveries • discovering: • new illnesses • ways to cure some illnesses • new medicines (involving plants/herbs) • new medical procedures
