Keyboard Shortcuts • [Tab] – move to next field • [Shift]+[Tab] – move to previous field • [Ctrl] + [C] – Copy • [Ctrl] + [X] – Cut • [Ctrl] + [V] – Paste • [Ctrl] + [A] – Select All • [Ctrl] + [Z] – Undo • [Ctrl] + [Y] – Redo • [Windows ] + [Left Arrow] – Move window to left-half of screen • [Windows ] + [Right Arrow] – Move window to right-half of screen • [Windows ] + [Up Arrow] – Maximize window

  3. Take a Screen Shot • Windows • Press [Print Screen] key • Paste to an email, document, photo editor, etc. • Mac OSX • Press [Command] + [Shift] + [3] keys

  4. Advanced Print Screen • Windows • Copy the active window to the clipboard • Press [Alt] + [Print Screen] keys • Mac OSX • Copy a specific area of the screen to the desktop • Press [Command] + [Shift} + [4] keys

  5. Solid State Drives “SSD” • Alternative to Hard Disk Drives “HDD” • Pros: Faster boot times, resistant to shock • Cons: Higher price per gigabyte, and lower capacity than HDDs • Older computers running at least an Intel Core2 Duo CPU may benefit from SSD upgrade • Strongly consider getting an SSD for new computers (especially laptops) • Note: An SSD upgrade does not guarantee a faster computer if you have issues related to the network, or other part of the system.

Video Chat - VSee • More secure and functional alternative to Skype • Allows screen sharing • Group video chatting • Free! • https://vsee.com/ • Tip: Register with a .edu email account and get the “Plus” upgrade for free. “Plus” accounts grant unlimited screen sharing and technical support. • Note: Only the paid subscriptions are HIPAA compliant. Do not use this to discuss sensitive information!

  7. Email Large Files - UH File Drop • Office 365, Exchange Online • DOP email attachment size limit is 25MB • But other institutions may have lower thresholds and may block large attachments • Use the UH File Drop service to “send” up to 800MB of files • Must have a UH @hawaii.edu email address • Do not use this to send unencrypted sensitive data! • Login to https://www.hawaii.edu/filedrop/ • Upload files • Send link to recipients

  8. Windows XP and MS Office 2003 • Official support ended on April 8, 2014 • Upgrade, discard, or keep offline

Heartbleed & Password Management • Hackers may have exploited a bug on many websites to steal passwords • Change all of your online passwords! • Password Manager: LastPass.com • Create and store strong & unique passwords for all websites • Passwords sync across web browsers and computers • Auto-fill usernames and passwords • Memorize just one Master password (you better not forget this!) • Mobile support requires LastPass Premium for $12/year • Is LastPass Safe? https://helpdesk.lastpass.com/getting-started/introduction/why-is-lastpass-safe/
