  2. Top 10 China’s Universities for MBBS study with moderate tuition fees (Duration: 6 years, 2012 ) ***** 16/72 (22.2%)

  3. A true doctor about 5 , 10, 20y later ? Consist of every day and every class In ZZU now Study hard for good future could not find a position in society

  6. Run fast to get worm Run fast to get gold medal You pass Medical License Exams as soon as possible, can get ideal job earlier

  7. How to do? I only hear; I forget I see, write down and repeat; I remember I do and think; I understand

  8. Preface to Pathophysiology • 1. What is Pathophysiology ? • Why to study it? • How to study it? • 4. What is it consisted of in our textbook?

  9. 1.What is pathophysiology?

  10. Pathophysiology ? = Clinical Physiology Medical Physiology Physiology of Disease Physiology of Disordered Function

  11. Pathophysiology ? = abnormal physiology + abnormal biochemistry

  12. Pathophysiology = Explore the rule of origin and evolution of disease processes (the underlying mechanisms). Basing on physiology and biochemistry

  13. The Methodologies Used in Pathophysiology • Experiments study • Clinical observation • Epidemiological study

  14. 2. Why to study Pathophysiology ? ? Basic medicine Clinical medicine explain “Why and How” of diseases

  15. Why Is Pathophysiology Important? • An essential introduction to clinical medicine • A bridge: basic medicine and diseases • Enables us to understand why and how diseases develop • Various clinical manifestations appear, which are the underlying mechanisms • In so doing devise rational therapeutics

  16. 3. How to study pathophysiology? Success comes with industry, but diligence …?

  17. Major Points in Learning Pathophysiology • The general concepts • The etiology and pathogenesis • The alterations of metabolism and function • The principles for prevention and therapies

  18. 4.Content of pathophysiology in this textbook General introduction on disease Pathological process Systemic and organic ~ Cellular and molecular ~

  19. Chapter 1 Conspectus of Disease

  20. 1.Concept of Disease • Aberrant manifestation of deregulated homeostasis caused by harmful agents • The development of a disease is a pathologic process with a characteristic set of signs and symptoms involved in the whole body or any of its parts

  21. Concept of Health Without any evidence of disease, and a state of complete well-being physically, socially and psychologically -----WHO health disease subhealth transitionstage

  22. 2.Etiology of Disease • Study the causative agents • Answer the question why disease happens

  23. complete well-being physically socially psychologically Extrinsic Factors Intrinsic Factors Predisposing factors Precipitating factors

  24. 3. Pathogenesis of diseases

  25. General rules for pathogenesis of diseases • Disruption of homeostasis • Process of damage and anti-damage • Reversal role of cause and result • Correlation between systemic and local regulations furuncle

  26. Radiation Trauma Microbe Monocyte Detoxification Physic barrier Carcinogen Coagulation Eyewinker Stress Teratologic Inflammation Immunoreaction Stressor Pyrogen Process of damage and anti-damage

  27. Basic Mechanisms for Disease • Neural regulations • Humoral regulations • Cellular regulations • Molecular regulations

  28. 高潮 前奏 尾声 序曲 Clinic symptoms 4.Phases of Diseases Prodrome Disease Recovery Latency

  29. Outcome of Disease Complete recovery Recovery Incomplete recovery Death

  30. Death • The body as a whole stops working forever • Brain death is the marker for the diagnosis

  31. Brain Death (WHO criteria) Cessation of spontaneous respiration Irreversible coma Absence of cephalic reflexes Dilated or fixed pupils Absence of any electrical activity of the brain Absence of brain blood flow

  32. Significance for diagnosis of brain death In favor of recording the time of death Define the time to terminate for the rescue In favor of organ transplantation

  33. How to do? • I only hear; I forget • I see, write down and repeat; I remember • I do and think; I understand

  34. Thank you!
