  1. Ask the Humpback Whale Jillian D. Thomas R.

  2. Name of animal: Humpback Whale • Scientific Name of animal: Megaptera novaeangliae • Vertebrate or Invertebrate: Vertebrate • Class of animal: Mammal Introduction

  3. How will I know if I see you compared to a killer whale? Killer Whales and I are very similar but we have differences too. I can have a white stomach like a killer whale but I can have blue or gray sides. I can weigh up to 53 tons. I have a fin like a killer whale and a spout. Our fins are also called pectoral fins and their used for swimming fast. My spout is used for breathing. Killer whales and I are very much alike.

  4. I know you’re a Mammal and you live in the ocean but is there a specific ocean? I do live in the ocean but in many places. And we also live all over the world. I feed my babies in specific places, and breed in specific places. So I do live all over the ocean.

  5. Your such a large animal. How do you eat and store your food? Its true I am a large animal. I store my food in my Baleen Plates in my mouth. As an adult I only eat and catch my food in the summer! I eat about 1.5 tons of food in a day. I don’t chew my food like plankton, krill, and small fish. I swallow them whole cause there so little. As such a large animal that’s what I eat.

  6. Food Chain

  7. Is it true that singing helps you survive, and do you have any water predators? yes , it is true that singing helps us survive. We can sing to one another to say get away. Also we don’t have many water predators. But some things that kill us are ships, pollution, and fishing gear, and humans use to kill us for blubber but now its against the law. So all of that is true!

  8. Are your babies born alive? I’m a mammal therefore my babies are born alive. They’re also called calves and are fed milk by me. I take care of them for about a year. I live for about 45 years. My babies weigh 1.5 tons, I weigh 53 tons. I have my babies when I’m about 8 years old. Since I’m a Humpback Whale my babies are born alive.

  9. Is it true that you travel over 300,000 miles in your life? yes it is true. Its true because we migrate every year in the winter. We also do a lot of swimming so we work a lot. So it is true!
