  3. The merchant is rich. • The merchant’s wife is one that demands things to make her beautiful, such as expensive clothes. • The monk is a good friend who is always welcome in their house.

  4. Wife is unsatisfied and goes to the monk for consolation. • Tells him of a hundred frank debt. • Monk promises to get her 100 franks

  5. The monk goes to the merchant and borrows 1oo franks from him. • The merchant leaves on a business trip. • The monk gives the money to the wife in and the wife “repays him”.

  6. The merchant returns and the monk tells him that he left the 100 franks with the wife. • The merchant confronts his wife for the money. • The wife reasons that she should keep the gold to do with as she wants. • In exchange, the merchant gets her body.
