  1. The Little White House It was originally constructed in 1890. Its most important usage was as the winter house of Harry S. Truman. On Truman's birthday, they celebrate it with fun activities.

  2. Who was Harry S. Truman? Harry S. Truman ran for President in 1945 and was elected the 33rd President. He was born in Lamar, Missouri on May 8, 1884. During his life, he got accepted to the Kansas City School of Lawand became a well educated man. Later on, he married Elizabeth “Bess” Virginia Wallace Truman and had a daughter Mary Margret. He took over Franklin D. Roosevelt's presidency because of his death in 1945 and he remained president for 8 years. He, himself died on December 26, 1972 in Kansas City at the age of 88.

  3. Childhood Truman's poor eyesight prevented him from playing sports but led him to his greatest passions; reading and music. He was proud because he read every book in the Independence public library. He learned to play the piano because of his passion for music.

  4. Adulthood His parents were unable to afford college, so Truman had to get a scholarship. His poor eyesight prevented him from attending West Point. After his high school graduation, he farmed, did oil drilling and banking. In 1917 with World War I in force, he joined the army.

  5. Facts He ran for county judge and lost, which was the only election he ever lost. In 1926, he was elected judge, then quit in 1934. In 1944, he became Franklin D. Roosevelt’s running mate. In 1945, he became president. He got reelected in 1949 and his second term ended in 1953. Then he died on December26, 1972.
