  14. Enhancing the Babycare System Genesee County Healthy Start Outcomes • Funded by DHHS/HRSA • Focused on African American women and infants • Zip code-specific • Served 342 families in 2005 • 240 pregnant women • 43 teens (<17 years)

  17. Fostering Community Mobilization Safe Sleep Initiative Outcomes • Funded by Ruth Mott Foundation • “Always Alone in a Crib of Their Own” • Coordinated by Genesee Co. DHS • Direct result of FIMR data-sharing • Provides safe sleep education and pack-n-plays • 1,498 participants (Feb 2004 - Aug 2006) • 1,635 pack-n-plays distributed

  18. Safe Sleep Initiative Outcomes 3, 6, & 9 month follow-up • 89% indicated baby sleeps on back • 91% indicated do not use couch-sleeping • 81% place nothing in crib • 98% were still using pack-n-play • 100% found education useful • 98% felt Safe Sleep should be taught in hospital N=121

  20. Reducing Racism REACH 2010 Outcomes • 20 Undoing Racism Workshops to-date • 764 attendees • Over 100 organizations represented • 48 physicians

  21. REACH 2010 Outcomes What do URW participants say? • 98% said the time they spent at the workshop was worthwhile • 95% felt it changed their knowledge about racism • 90% felt it changed their attitude about racism • 89% stated it would change the way they will act in the workplace

  22. Infant Mortality Reduction in Genesee County: What’s Next? • Research studies to measure impact ~Birth Outcomes Study ~Racism & Health Disparities Survey ~CDC/PRC Invited Proposal? • REACH 2010 Phase III funding? • Replication in other communities?
