  3. Synonym Clue • Groupthink – faulty decisions made within a group – has been the subject of numerous sociological studies.

  4. Antonym Clue • He was generally a beneficent king; however, his attitude toward the thief was thoughtless and cruel.

  5. General Context Clue • When the play went badly and the player fumbled the ball, the coach became volatile.

  6. Example Clue • Her husband treated her like a lackey. He ordered her to do menial and degrading tasks.

  7. Using Context Clues to Define - Subordinate • In the U.S. Army, a general is the highest rank of officer, whereas the most subordinate officer rank is second lieutenant.
