  1. This was the week that…. The children are well and truly back into the swing of school now and it is really exciting to see them being focused so well. Early Years should be very proud of their phonics learning this week. They have been learning how to listen well and are starting to hear the sounds that will help them learn to read! We are also very impressed with how well they have participated in the routines of school from walking around the building in the correct way to attending assembly. We started the week with our special assembly to welcome our new Young Leaders into their posts. The brave candidates had to give a speech, stating what they intended to do if they were elected and had to endure a vote – it required a great deal of courage to take part and we are proud of all the children who put themselves forward. Now our Young Leaders are in place ; their weekly meetings will start and they will be assigned their responsibilities in school. In addition to our Young Leaders, we also have a group of Play Leaders, who are starting to work with Mrs Williams and Miss Frewer to help the younger children have fun during lunchtimes. It’s a big responsibility, but we are sure they will get the hang of it and the younger children will learn some excellent games from them. Year 3 and 4 celebrated Harvest this week by visiting West Row Baptist Church to view the exhibition and participate in activities. We would like to thank the Baptist Church for inviting us; the children enjoyed their visit. We were also lucky enough to have Mr Harrison bring his tractor in for the children to see again this year – it’s been good for the children to learn about how their food gets on to their plates! Still on the Harvest theme, we welcomed Rev Tim Bright From The Kings Project in Mildenhall once again this year. He led an assembly which helped children to see the difference their donations to the project made last year. To support our Connect value, which focuses on ways to improve our environment physically and emotionally, we are supporting this project once again. We are looking forward to collecting your donations for the food bank, which does fantastic work in the locality. Thank you to all the parents who attended our Phonics Information Session on Thursday evening. We hope you found it useful in helping you to understand how we teach children to read and how you can help at home. If you were unable to attend the session, we will be uploading the slides from the session to our website over the next few weeks. Also, keep an eye on our Facebook page for a video of how we say each of the individual sounds to the children so you can match it at home.
