  2. In the Beginning • Mingo County Diabetes Coalition was formed in Spring 2011 • Goal was to decrease incidence of diabetes among local residents and improved glycemic control among residents with diabetes

  4. Lunch Walk Program • GOAL: First team to reach the West Coast wins • First held in the Fall 2011 • 9 Week Duration • Spring and Fall Programs • Over 400 community members now participating within Williamson.

  5. Expansion of Lunch Walk Marin City, California travels to Williamson, WW

  6. Dining With Diabetes • Program consists of: • Nutrition Education • Lifestyle Change Strategies • Chair Exercises • Healthy Food Demonstrations • Diabetic Recipe Cards • Free A1c testing (before and after) • 4 week Duration • Spring and Fall Programs

  7. Walk With Ease • Held at 6 Senior Citizen Centers and Churches in Mingo County • Encourages Physical Activity among Elderly populations • 6 week Duration (3 meetings per week) • Spring and Fall Programs

  8. Local Foods • Williamson Farmers Market • Community Gardens • Mingo County Orchard

  9. Take 10 School Program • PURPOSE: To encourage 8th grade middle school students to reach 10,000 steps a day. • 6 Week Program • Spring and Fall Programs • 5K Runs complete each semester • Currently morphed into the Let’s Move Initiative

  10. 1st Annual Block Party • PURPOSE: To bring the community together for a healthy night of physical activity, healthy foods, and fun! • Nearly 300 participants from the community came out to join us!

  11. Monthly 5K Run/Walk • PURPOSE: To increase physical activity opportunities
