Hair Testing Updates and Make-Up Application Extension

Starting from July 1, 2009, students will only be tested on horizontal finger waves, diagonal skip waves, and vertical brush waves. Perm rods must be on base for all hair lengths. The application technique varies depending on hair length. Students must apply the product at specific distances from the scalp. The grading criteria for a uniform layered haircut has also been updated. Additionally, the timing for the Make-Up Application Phase of the Exam will be increased from 30 minutes to 45 minutes.

  1. EFFECTIVE 1 JULY 2009 STUDENTS WILL ONLY BE TESTED ON THE HORIZONTAL FINGER WAVES.

  2. EFFECTIVE 1 JULY 2009 STUDENTS WILL ONLY BE TESTED ON THE DIAGONAL SKIP WAVE AND THE VERTICAL BRUSH WAVE.

  3. EFFECTIVE 1 JULY 2009 ALL PERM RODS MUST BE ON BASE.

  4. *If the hair is 4 inches or shorter, product is to be applies 1/2 inch from the scalp and apply the product thru to the ends. *If the hair is longer than 4 inches then apply the product 1/2 inch from the scalp to 1 inch from the ends.

  5. EFFECTIVE 1 JULY 2009 *Students must apply the product 1/8 inch from the scalp down to 1/2 inch of the hair strand.

  6. EFFECTIVE 1 JULY 2009 STUDENTS WILL ONLY BE GRADED ON A 90 DEGREE UNIFORM LAYERED HAIRCUT. THIS MEANS IF YOUR GUIDE LINE IS 5 INCHES THE HAIR MUST BE 5 INCHES THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE HAIRCUT.

  7. EFFECTIVE 1 JULY 2009 The timing of the Make-Up Application Phase of the Exam will be increased from 30 minutes to 45 minutes.
