  2. Proposed Law • Our proposed law is A mental evaluation and a strict background check must be passed before the purchase of a weapon. It will protect the common good because it will take away the weapons from people who shouldn’t have them. Also it wouldn’t violate the 2nd Amendment because we are only interfering on their right to bare arms to protect the common good.

  3. Proposed Law (cont.) Supports individual rights Protects common good Allows people without mental illnesses and criminal records weapons. .It protects the right to bear arms which is stated under the 2nd Amendment. It allows people to protect them self with self defense after passing the checks to purchase a weapon. Keep weapons out of hand of mentally ill citizens. Protects agents situations such as Sandy Hook School Shooting. Keep weapons out of hands of violent offenders.

  4. Court Cases United States vs. Lopez Columbia v. Heller Conflict- Alfonso Lopez, Jr. was caught with a gun in school, he said it was part of a transaction in which he will receive 40 dollars for and augured with the Gun-Free Schools act it interfered with commerce . Court ruling-Supreme Court ruled 5-4 in favor of the United State. Precedent- Government can interfere with the sales of weapons to protect the common good. Conflict-Dick Heller was a police offices in Washington D. C. and asked if he can register a handgun to protect his house the law banned it and be brought it to court. Court ruling-Supreme Court ruled a 5-4 majority decision that the D. C. law was unconstitional . Precedent-Government shall not interfere with citizen’s right listed in the second amendment.
