  4. A Laboratory For Learning Our classroom is a place where kids can explore, investigate, and share their learning with others. If you peek in our room you are likely to see kids spread out all over the place. It might appear a bit chaotic to an outsider. However, what you are seeing is learning in progress.Children learn best when they are actively engaged. I seek to create an environment that promotes passionate learning. F.R.O.G Binders First Graders Responsible, Organized and Growing • Front pocket: Homework • Zippered pouch: money and notes • Communication Log • Behavior Log • Spelling section/word wall • Reading Log • Work in progress folder • Writer’s Notebook • Finished Work Folder • Math fact section • Back pocket: newsletters Frog binders should be taken home and checked daily and then returned to school in the morning.

  6. Homework Weekly Exploration Pack 3-4 Math sheets per week Word work activities Sent home on Friday Return on Thursday Not graded Opportunity for parent and child to share in learning

Exploration Packs • Themed learning bags • Contain books, puzzles, games, and activities • Offer opportunity for parent and child to share learning in a fun way. • Contain a journal that is shared during sharing circle on Thursday or Friday. Each Friday your child will bring home a new Exploration Pack. This pack is the main component of homework. Exploration packs encourage and develop literacy skills and are intended to be shared with family members.You may pick and choose what items you wish to complete.Enjoy learning along with your child! What is in an Exploration pack???

  9. Classroom Economy Learners earn pennies for working hard and making good choices. Fines are assessed for inappropriate behavior and rule infractions. Earnings can be spent twice a month at the Frog Shop.

  12. Snack Snack time mid morning Please send a healthy snack Water bottles are encouraged No red juice please Please consider donating a box of cereal or crackers for our forgotten snack supply

  13. WATER Research shows that children need water through out the day. Dehydration impacts learning. Please send a SPOUT top water bottle to school with your child on a daily basis. We do not have a water fountain in our room.

  14. Volunteers Volunteers welcome! Manage work stations in the morning Assist during Writer’s Workshop Listen to children read Office stuff: copies, laminating, etc. Home assignments Please sign up before you leave.
