  1. Memories of Jiro at Kyoto, SLAC and Hiroshima Ken Sasaki Yokohama National University Towards precision QCD physics dedicated to the memory of Jiro Kodaira07.3.10

  2. Jiro at Kyoto • Graduated from Kyoto Univ. in 1974 • Finished Ph.D in 1979 • 1979-1980 RA at YITP, Kyoto Univ. We were young, anticipating bright future and happy • Particle physics group at Kyoto Univ. at that time Students were admitted into faculties’ offices • Jiro was at Matsuda’ office for years.

  3. At Mt. Atago At home of M. Kobayashi (1976) (1977 ?)

  4. I shared office with Jiro for six months in 1976-77 • His desk was always tidy and cleaned up • His notebooks Jiro’note Tsuneo’s note My note

  5. He loved coffee • He loved sake • He loved to play GO • He fell in love with Mieko • Analysis of hadronic decays of Ψ/J particles in generalized Veneziano models, J. Kodaira and K. S. ; Phys. Rev. D17, 1381-1388 (1978) • Analysis of hadronic decays of Ψ/J particles in generalized Veneziano models.II. The Ψ -> 3πdecay, J. Kodaira and K. S. ; Phys. Rev. D18, 786-790 (1978) • Analysis of hadronic decays of Ψ/J particles in generalized Veneziano models III. The Ψ -> KKπdecay, J. Kodaira and K. S. ; Phys. Rev. D18, 4164-4169 (1978) • QCD effects in polarized electroproduction, J. Kodaira, S. Matsuda, T. Muta, T. Uematsu and K. S. ; Phys. Rev. D20, 627-629 (1979) • QCD higher order effects in spin-dependent deep inelastic electroproduction, J. Kodaira, S. Matsuda, T. Uematsu and K. S. ; Nucl. Phys. B159, 99-124 (1979) • Study of the reaction pp -> Ψn in generalized Veneziano models, J. Kodaira and K. S. ; Lett. Nuovo Cim. 26, 417-422 (1979)

  6. I visited his parents’ home at Suwa in 1979 Jiro grew up at Suwa Suwa Taisha Lake Suwa

  7. We were treated to regional specialites Horse meat LocustsBee embryos “ Catch of the day” from Lake Suwa

  8. Jiro at SLAC • 1980-1982 JSPS Fellow at SLAC (Postdocs: J. Kodaira, L. Trentadue, S. Parke,J. Polchinski, G. Bodwin, E. Kovac, C. Peterson, S. Gupta, ….…, K. S. • He loved cars (He drove a big red Cadillac) Picnic at SLAC (1980)

  9. He loved wine Wine tasting at Napa Valley (1980)

  10. Jiro at Hiroshima • 1983-2005 at Hiroshima Univ. • He was an excellent teacher and mentor. • He supervised many students for their Ph.D theses Mt. Aso in Kyushu (1996)

  11. He loved cars (He drove a BMW) • He was a gourmet Lobster One of his favorite places Sole

  12. He organized International Symposium on “QCD Corrections and New Physcs” at Hiroshima in 1997 • The mass of the lightest supersymmetric Higgs boson beyond the leading logarithm approximation, J. Kodaira, Y. Yasui and K. S.; Phys. Rev. D50, 7035-7041 (1994) • The background field method: Alternative way of deriving the pinch technique's results, S. Hashimoto, J. Kodaira, Y. Yasui and K. 13. It is very sad to admit that Jiro is no longer with us but I WILL neverforget his contributions to particle physics and also our friendship for more than 30 years.
